Job Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Temporary Biological Sciences Research Technician 2 position for the Department of Botany & Plant Pathology at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position will use computational biology to analyze and understand large genomic data sets. The incumbent will work with graduate students and post-docs to develop bioinformatics pipelines to facilitate data analysis and visualization.

Key Responsibilities

60% Developing bioinformatics tools and pipelines for lab use. Collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing large genomics data sets. Generating figures and analyzing genomics data. Writing summaries of analysis results.

30% Supporting research efforts of graduate students and post docs in the lab.

10% Assisting with data collection and laboratory experiments

What We Require

Two years of college-level courses in (specific field of biological science) and one year of experience related to the area of assignment at the Biological Research Technician 1 level; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Two years of college-level courses in (in relevant field of biological science) and one year of experience related to the area of assignment at the Biological Research Technician 1 level; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Experience working with bioinformatics microbiome data collected from forest ecosystems.

Ability to follow directions and make independent decisions

Commitment to safety, quality of work, and professionalism

Ability to promote an inclusive and accessible work environment

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess, and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

What We Would Like You to Have

2 years of college coursework in biological data sciences, natural resources, or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience

Experience working independently with bioinformatics sequence data and pipeline developments

Self-motivated and capable of working independently

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

May be required to work outside under unfavorable weather conditions. May be required to lift heaving objects (up to 50lbs). The position is located on OSU campus location every day (Monday-Friday).
