General Description: Responsible for the safe, productive, and efficient operations of (enter facility here). Responsible for planning, leading and controlling the day-to-day operations related to shop employees, production and processing of all orders, equipment and facility in the warehouse, yard, and production areas. Oversight of skilled labor force, production, shipping/receiving, inventory, machinery & equipment, and buildings & property.

Duties and Responsibilities :

· Foster safety and cleanliness throughout the facility, including warehouse, yard, and production areas.

· Ensure adequate training is provided for all employees to maintain a safe and efficient workplace. Review training requirements on a regular basis. Cross-train as appropriate.

· Monitor labor capacity to ensure it aligns with demand. Schedule work hours and/or recruit additional labor to meet demand. Likewise, control cost by ensuring excess labor capacity is minimized.

· Recruit and hire capable, trusted and effective line managers/foreman as needed based on workload demand to share the daily operational tasks and minimize management bottlenecks.

· Carry out on-site HR functions for all shop employees, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, orientation, motivating, performance reviews, daily time management, discipline and termination when needed. Communicate all activity with the HR department.

· Oversee safety programs, review safety incidents and ensure equipment, facility, and procedures (both written and actual) are in agreement with company objectives and standard safety protocol. Communicate safety objectives to employees.

· Oversee and administer the EKSP Quality Assurance plan and all related procedures and ensure that all employees comply with its requirements. Make adjustments when necessary to processes, procedures or personnel to ensure quality output.

· Coordinate production and logistics to ensure timely delivery of product and receipt of raw materials. Control inbound and outbound rail traffic as needed.

· Review all customer orders related to the operation and ensure timely processing and shipment. Provide communication as needed to the sales group well in advance of scheduled delivery where inventory, delivery dates, maintenance issues, capacity or capabilities put timely delivery at risk.

· Ensure that all customer orders are given prompt attention and recognize the priorities to enable accurate scheduling consistent with customer demand and EKSP objectives.

· Review warehouse and equipment needs/condition in conjunction with preventive maintenance plan. Ensure all necessary equipment is fully functional and meets present and projected capacity. Submit capital expenditure budget for items in need of purchase, upgrade or repair.

· Oversee and manage maintenance projects, emergency repairs, and planned preventive maintenance shut-downs. Review preventive maintenance plans and maintenance purchasing.

· Position the operation to be a trusted and dependable ally to the sales group through timely and effective communication while fostering a can-do attitude that is realistic in terms of lead time and capabilities. Ensure that promises are kept, but recognize and communicate the fact the operation cannot always please everyone all of the time.

· Monitor inventory to ensure adequate levels of in-demand material and provide inventory projections as needed. Initiate material transfers from other EKSP facilities or submit purchase requisitions to buyers as needed to replenish stock. Maintain open communication with sales to ensure that projections and inventory demand are clear and in agreement with sales objectives.

· Monitor scrap and undesirable inventory levels. Make adjustments to processes and procedures as necessary to ensure acceptable scrap/undesirable levels. Ensure scrap procedures and related decision making are within company policy and maximize profitability.

· Administer and maintain all necessary permits, registrations, licenses, forms, and postings required for the facility to operate in compliance with state and local agencies.

· Develop annual goals and objectives for the operation which are in agreement with corporate goals. Develop or revise or fine-tune policies and procedures to enable goal achievement.

· Collect data and prepare monthly status reports from which to learn and improve the operation and to communicate operational efficiency:

  • Tons shipped
  • Man hours per ton (As-Is and Processing)
  • Tons/Lbs per day by work center
  • On-time shipments
  • Undesirable drops and scrap levels
  • Shipments per day
  • Internal and external rejection rates
  • Processing parts volume
  • Other metrics as needed

Required Knowledge and Skill Sets:

Education/Experience:

Associates or Bachelors degree. Prior manufacturing and computer experience helpful.

Prior supervisory or management experience preferably in production.

Prior business experience required.

Eddie Kane Steel’s flagship processing facility in Ohio (180,000 square-foot warehouse and production plant) has a crane capacity up to 100 tons and has full rail access. The North Carolina and California facilities are also fully served by rail.
Eddie Kane Steel’s processing capabilities include high-definition plasma and oxy-fuel flame cutting, shearing, bending, drilling, punching, welding, beveling, Blanchard grinding, stress relieving, and light machining. With two plasma burning machines (including high-definition plasma machines), plate thicknesses up to 14 inches can be cut. Our oxy-fuel cutting capabilities include several multi-torch multi-head machines with several hundred feet of cutting surface.
