Statement of the job:  The University of Maine at Augusta is looking for a Learning Experience Designer to join our Augusta or Bangor Campus. The position supports the development and implementation of high-quality, accessible, and engaging learning experiences at UMA. This position collaborates closely with faculty, instructional staff, and internal or external partners to design and enhance courses aligned with Universal Design for Learning (UDL), accessibility standards (ADA, Section 508), and evidence-based instructional design practices. This position will be hybrid based on departmental needs.

Qualifications:

Required Education:
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a related field  and at least 3 years of experience in instructional design in higher education that includes online learning

Or

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a related field  and at least 5 years of experience in instructional design  that includes online learning in any combination of at least two or more of the following settings: 
    • Higher education
    • K-12 education
    • Corporate/Workplace Learning & Development (L&D)
    • Government and Military Education and Training
    • Museums, Libraries, or Cultural Institutions
    • Freelance/Consulting Work

Required Skills:

  • Experience integrating instructional technologies, e-learning tools (e.g., Zoom, Kaltura, Adobe Creative Suite, etc), and methodologies into course design to improve learning outcomes.
  • Experience designing for accessibility compliance, including expertise with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and ADA guidelines.
  • Experience using project management tools (e.g., TeamDynamix, Asana, etc.) to track milestones, manage timelines, and coordinate tasks within instructional design projects.
  • Prior use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, DALL·E, Gemini, etc.) in course design, research, or public/private training/educational contexts.
  • Experience designing in an LMS such as Brightspace, Canvas, Blackboard, etc.

Preferred:

  • Doctoral degree in instructional design, educational leadership, faculty development, or a related field.
  • Experience incorporating neurodiversity-informed practices into the design and development of online or distance education courses.
  • Certifications or credentials in any of the following: project management, Google Apps for Education, Adobe Creative Suite, digital accessibility, user interface design, HTML, CSS, Java Script.
  • Experience in implementing micro-credentialing and AI-driven educational tools.

Salary: The normal hiring salary for this position is in the high 50's to low 60’s and is commensurate with training, education, and experience and will take into consideration the salary of current UMS employees for transfer/promotion.
