Job Summary:

The Director of Housekeeping at Kindred Resorts is responsible for managing the daily operations of the housekeeping department to ensure the highest levels of cleanliness and guest satisfaction are maintained. This position will provide oversight of guest rooms and public areas, and management of all housekeeping activities including budget reviews, ordering supplies, labor tracking, scheduling, staffing, room inspections, training, disciplining and development of employees.

Job Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma 
  • Previous experience in managing a hotel/resort housekeeping department.  
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Supervisory /Management /Assistant Housekeeping position.
  • Word, Excel, Outlook experience and skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex correspondence in English
  • Ability to effectively present detailed information both verbally and in written form to guests and employees throughout the organization

Preferred:

  • College degree
  • Previous luxury hotel experience 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Opening Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning & Department Setup

  • Manage the housekeeping department’s strategic plan and timeline
  • Design and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in line with Kindred, RockResorts and Forbes standards for a luxury hotel.
  • Create detailed room cleaning sequences, checklists, and service processes for all room types
  • Define department structure, job roles, and reporting lines

Budgeting & Procurement

  • Manage pre-opening budget and refine operational budget for the department
  • Identify and procure housekeeping equipment, machinery, and tools (e.g., vacuums, carts, linen hampers)
  • Ensure procurement aligns with sustainability and Vail brand requirements

Staffing & Training

  • Recruit and onboard housekeeping leadership, supervisors, room attendants, and support staff
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs covering:
    • Luxury guest service standards
    • Room cleaning procedures and inspections
    • Health, hygiene, and safety compliance
    • Use of cleaning equipment and technology
  • Conduct trial runs and mock guestroom servicing for skill validation

Room Readiness & Quality Assurance

  • Participate in room inspections with construction/project teams to identify punch-list items
  • Supervise deep cleaning of all rooms and suites prior to housewares install
  • Supervise installation of housewares
  • Ensure all guest rooms are staged and styled to luxury presentation standards

Laundry & Linen Operations

  • Establish laundry procedures (outsourced)
  • Define process to maintain par levels for linens, towels, uniforms, and guest amenities
  • Set up linen room layout and inventory control systems
  • Train staff on linen handling and damage prevention

Systems & Technology

  • Implement and test housekeeping management software (e.g., Opera Cloud, Alice, Relay, etc)
  • Set up communication protocols for room status updates and service requests

Guest Experience Design

  • Define personalized touches and luxury processes for different guest profiles (VIPs, families, long-stays)
  • Curate scent profiles, turndown experiences, and seasonal housekeeping offerings
  • Prepare in-room collateral related to cleanliness, sustainability, and amenity options

Sustainability & Compliance

  • Establish eco-conscious cleaning protocols and chemical usage standards
  • Lead the efforts towards Vail’s Epic Promise
  • Ensure all procedures align with local laws and luxury brand sustainability initiatives

Opening Support & Quality Testing

  • Lead soft-opening and trial runs with internal stakeholders and mystery guests
  • Conduct ongoing performance audits and cleanliness inspections
  • Provide daily reports and readiness updates to General Manager and Executive Committee
  • Be present during opening to respond to guest feedback and support staff in real time

Job Responsibilities (Post Opening):

  • Provide supervision and direction for all housekeeping activities of the hotel and residences to ensure the highest levels of cleanliness and guest satisfaction are maintained.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor through appearance and by maintaining a positive attitude toward all employees and guests.
  • Monitor house count and make staffing adjustments accordingly.
  • Oversee payroll for the housekeeping department, including clearing exceptions and approving payroll.
  • Responsible for hiring and training all new staff.
  • Conduct coaching and disciplinary form for all direct reports.
  • Analyze data and compile reports on expenditures, wages, labor, inventory, supplies, etc. in relation to hotel financial forecasts and budget. 
  • Prepare monthly forecast and annual budget for department
  • Distribute and delegate work load to guarantee maximum production and guest satisfaction with minimum outlay of expenses in terms of labor and materials.
  • Continuous visual inspection of guest rooms and public space areas including restaurants, lounges, meeting rooms, etc.
  • Investigate complaints, evaluate corrective actions, and implement plans to resolve and de-escalate conflicts.
  • Ensure proper usage of chemicals and cleaning supplies by monitoring usage, providing complete training for employees and ensuring proper labeling of hazardous supplies in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to provide clear direction in assigning and instructing housekeeping and laundry staff in details of work. 
  • Prepare professional correspondence for customers, internal booking reports and file maintenance. 
  • Evaluate condition of furniture, fixtures, decor, etc.  Make recommendations and assist in the coordination of rehab projects.
  • Develop strong working relationships with other department managers and directors to ensure communication and teamwork is at an optimum level.
