The Preuss School UC San Diego is a public charter school located on the East Campus, serving scholars grades 6-12. Dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for motivated low-income scholars who will become the first in their families to attend and complete college. Preuss serves as a model school to study and develop promising practices in education.
Under the general direction of the School Operations Manager, the Attendance Coordinator oversees all aspects of the school's scholars absence and attendance data. Incumbent works closely with teachers to verify, review, update and certify attendance data into Preuss Student Information System (SIS) for accuracy to meet annual District and State audits.
Incumbent remains current in San Diego Unified School District and California Department of Education attendance and transportation policies and reporting requirements. Communicate with parents (including Spanish speaking parents) to verify absences, issue and record early leave permits and tardy passes, and document all verified absences, late arrivals, and early departures. Maintains attendance documentation records to support Average Daily Attendance (ADA) claimed by the school -- accuracy is of critical importance as per-scholar funding drives the largest portion of the school's revenue. Works closely with school administrators to plan and execute on initiatives to incentivize and reward high rates of attendance, and address and intervene for scholars with chronic absenteeism and tardiness.
Submits Monthly Attendance Summaries to San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) Pupil Accounting to determine funding allocation to The Preuss School. Works closely with teachers to coordinate on Independent Study (IS) for short-term absences from the school for ADA purposes as outlined by school policy.
In addition to attendance responsibilities, incumbent oversee all aspects of the school's transportation operational needs. This includes maintaining reservations and checkouts for the school's carts and vans; coordinating with MTS on data sharing agreements for purposes of issuing Youth Opportunity Pronto Passes; and arranging with third party service providers for field trips. Ensures permission slips and insurance requirements are met as required by University policy.
As a member of the Administrative Front Office team, the incumbent works closely with the School Operations Manager and Front Office Administrator to ensure full operational coverage of the front desk of the school during operating hours. Attend weekly School Administrator meetings to coordinate on all schoolwide events and field trips.
Must be able to work overtime as needed.
Fluent in Spanish is required.
Experience with general office equipment, including computers and related software applications.
Advanced-level skills in using word-processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, and presentation applications such as those in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publishing, PowerPoint).
Bilingual in English/Spanish. Knowledge of correct Spanish usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including courtesy, professionalism and cooperative attitude. Demonstrated experience in communicating effectively with tact, good judgment, and confidentiality to a broad range of people, including diverse individuals, groups, and/or an organization.
Proven ability to multitask, prioritize workload, meet a variety of deadlines with frequent interruptions/changing priorities. Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions with little or no supervision. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Analytical ability to assess problems/procedures, identify and communicate issues, evaluate options, consider consequences and recommend solutions.
Demonstrated knowledge of records management practice, design and implement an effective filing system that promotes quick retrieval, archiving and purging records.
Ability to use tact, judgment, and skill in responding to questions or problems related to attendance or transportation of students.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and supportive relationships with parents, students, teachers, staff, and visitors.
Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality, handling sensitive matters and persons from diverse backgrounds
Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to learn pertinent San Diego Unified School District attendance and transportation policies and reporting requirements.
FBI/DOJ Live Scan background check required.
Tuberculosis (TB) screening required.
Duties will require direct contact with children (defined as individuals under the age of 18); completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form is required.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $40,700 - $85,295 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $19.49 - $40.85
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
