Job Description and Duties

DPR's OLA has an opening for an Attorney I focused on administrative legal issues including employment, contracts, and grants.  Under the direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel, the Attorney will provide legal support to DPR executive management, the DPR Human Resources Branch, Equal Employment Office, the Fiscal, Audits, and Business Services Branch and other programs regarding:

  • Compliance with complex and sensitive employment and labor-related requirements, including but not limited to, issues regarding performance management and progressive discipline, personnel transactions, retaliation, whistleblower protection, equal  employment opportunity complaints and investigations, and departmental policies.
  • DPR contracts and the DPR research and alliance grants.
  • Various administrative and government law requirements including the Public Records Act, Bagley-Keene Open Meeting Act, and Political Reform Act.
  • Diversity equity and inclusion matters and civil rights policy requirements.

Working Conditions

Incumbent may be required to travel and work irregular hours.

Ability to use a computer up to 8 hours a day.

Occasional statewide travel with occasional overnight stays.

NOTE: This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.
